How to get a work permit?

A lot of people would want to come and work in Canada. The country does offer a lot of exciting work opportunities to all its residents. But there's an elaborate process for foreign nationals to come and work here.

The main reason why people want to come and work in Canada is the great work-life balance, good pay structure and healthy working environment that it has to offer. The country gives you more recognition and growth opportunities than anywhere else.

But it's not very easy for a foreign worker to come and work in Canada. To do so you will require an LMIA (Labour Market Impact Assessment) in most cases and there are very strict requirements placed by the Canadian government to issue a positive LMIA. The main among them are:
  1. You will first have to prove that there is no eligible or willing Canadian Permanent Resident or Citizen available to do the job that you wish to to do here.
  2. Your employer will have to advertise for at least 3 months before you apply for an LMIA.
  3. There will be a combination of various advertising mediums that the employer will have to use.
  4. The objective of the government is to secure employment for Canadian permanent residents or Canadian citizens.

However there are still many jobs that do not require an LMIA. For example:
  1. Jobs covered by an international agreement like NAFTA or GATS.
  2. Jobs that are covered by an agreement between Canada and a province or territory.
  3. Some jobs maybe exempt for "Canadian interest" reasons like:
    • Significant benefit: self-employed Engineers, technical workers, workers transferred within a company, and workers under mobilite Franco Phone.
    • Reciprocal employment: let's foreign workers get jobs in Canada when Canadians have similar opportunities in other countries.
    • Jobs which are designated by the minister: Academics, including researchers guest lecturers and visiting professors.
    • Charity and religious work.
This is the proper process how work permits are given to foreign workers. We have heard numerous stories where in people have been promised jobs in Canada and have been defrauded of their hard-earned money. Thus we would very strongly recommend you to stay away from such lucrative advertisements which promise you easy jobs in Canada.
