How the Australian Immigration system is decades ahead of Canada!

Image
Canada and Australia are two of the most attractive destinations for prospective immigrants, temporary or permanent. Though it was Canada in 1967, that introduced the world to the point based skilled immigration, but in the past few years or decades if I must say, it is Australia which has lead the world in immigration reforms. Immigration innovation makes the process simpler and faster for the end user, is cost effective, environment friendly, removes/ reduces the chance of making mistakes on an immigration application and definitely saves time for everyone. And is not only Australia alone, but various other countries like New Zealand etc are moving forward on introducing rapid immigration reforms. Let us look at three different scenarios where Australia scores over Canada: 1.        Visa Labels In November 2002, Australia introduced the concept of eVisa, allowing students from across the globe to apply for Australian study permit online. In April 2008, Australia did a

A lot of people would want to come and work in Canada. The country does offer a lot of exciting work opportunities to all its residents. But there's an elaborate process for foreign nationals to come and work here. The main reason why people want to come and work in Canada is the great work-life balance, good pay structure and healthy working environment that it has to offer. The country gives you more recognition and growth opportunities than anywhere else. But it's not very easy for a foreign worker to come and work in Canada. To do so you will require an LMIA (Labour Market Impact Assessment) in most cases and there are very strict requirements placed by the Canadian government to issue a positive LMIA. The main among them are: You will first have to prove that there is no eligible or willing Canadian Permanent Resident or Citizen available to do the job that you wish to to do here. Your employer will have to advertise for at least 3 months before you ap

And I survived!!! Story of my 2 years in Canada

Image
Hello Friends, It was today on 17 August 2015 that we left India for Canada, for good. We had our flight from Chandigarh to Delhi via Brussels to Toronto. Our destination was Brampton. Just before we left for Canada We had initially planned Calgary, Alberta as our Port of Entry into Canada, and had hoped to settle there. I had mentioned Calgary as our landing city in my immigration forms and we had even opened our bank account with Scotiabank there. But as luck would have it, I was offered a job by my employer at their Brampton office and we had to change all our plans. Brampton, was the last city I wanted to go to in Canada. But I was being offered a job even before setting foot on the Canadian soil. I could not say NO. We knew nobody in Brampton. No friends. No relatives. We were by ourselves. We were excited to land in Toronto and set foot on the Canadian soil. We had approximately 250 kilograms of baggage with us (25kgs x 8 bags + 4 cabin baggages x 12 kgs each,

Work Permits for International Students

Image
In 2015, there we 353,570 international students in Canada with China and India as the main source countries. This is almost a 100% increase in numbers from the year 2008, when there were 184,170 international students in Canada. International students add diversity to the college/ university/ city they are studying in and bring a whole new perspective along. However, the international student fee in Canada is approximately 3 times higher than what a domestic student has to pay. To offset this and to give them a taste of the workforce, the Canadian Government has introduced various work permit options for them.

You can only get an open work permit in specific situations .     2. Employer-Specific Work Permits An employer-specific work permit   allows you to work according to the conditions on your work permit, which include: the name of the employer you can work for, how long you can work, and  the location where you can work (if applicable).
